Calling All Adoption Bloggers!

Ari and I just keep getting more and more excited the more we think about adopting. In fact, we're downright giddy. We are also c l u e l e s s. Right now we're reading the two books below- Ari's reading the first one, I'm reading the second one. We'll swap when we're done.

I'm enjoying the Idiot's Guide; it's a great overview. But I am always desperate for more material. I've been trolling the Adoption Blogroll over at Stirrup Queens, but I'm looking to connect with other bloggers who are in the initial, pre-home study stages of their adoption process or at the very least, those who have not yet been matched or finalized.

So I'm putting the call out there, because I trust this community more than I trust Google:

What adoption blogs should I be reading and following?
Also what websites, books, videos, YouTube channels, etc. should I be looking out for?
Which resources should I stay away from?

Thank you in advance, oh wonderful and resourceful and connected ALI community!

I can't say that my blog is "adoptiong" related, but out PS-MAPP classes start in a few months here in Iowa and I will be blogging about everything we learn and discover in that process...don't know if it would be helpful but you are welcome to check it out!

My husband and I have been looking at adopting for some time and one of my favorites is the R House (I think it is therhouse.blogspot). She is an awesome writer and has a lot of guest bloggers who talk about open adoption.

Well, we're slightly ahead of you (waiting for our dossier to be translated) but happy to help out where I can. I've been reading quite a bit of helpful stories but....are you going domestic or international? That changes things quite a bit....

Best of luck! Doesn't it feel good once the decision is made! :-)

My husband and I adopted this year and it has been amazing. We are an interfaith family (he is Jewish, I am not) and used Luteran Social Services for our adoption and our social worker is Jewish. All of that so say, don't worry about agencies too much! We adopted from foster care but have never been foster parents. We opted to adopt an older child. There are SO VERY MANY out there that need parents. It didn't cost us a penny! I will be glad to answer any questions that you may have! It's an exciting time!

i want to wish you and your husband the very best of luck as you start on this new part of your journey!!

bon over at ican haz bebe (http://icanhazbebe.blogspot.com/) is adopting from africa after a botched domestic adoption attempt.

i hope you find all that you are looking for and more. .

Let's talk offline (I think I've only ever used that phrase metaphorically before, in meetings!) about this. There are lots of adoptive and foster families in my congregation. I can put you in touch with some of the parents.

I haven't adopted and I don't blog ... but, I did move pretty far down the path of domestic adoption and did a fair amount of reading. I found the book Beating the Adoption Odds (though I hated the title) by Cynthia Martin and Dru Martin Groves pretty informative in terms of the different types of adoption and their pros & cons. Also, I love, love, love http://www.anymommyoutthere.com/ ; she's a mom parenting 1 adopted (from Haiti) and 3 bio kids, and who also disrupted the adoption of her (then oldest) son and she writes very clearly and honestly (IMO) about the whole thing, and funnily about much of parenting (obviously not the disruption as that's hardly funny) part.

Good luck to you. I know adoption can be a long and grueling path but I hope it brings you a wonderful family.

My husband and I are just BARELY beginning the process of domestic adoption. I haven't blogged about it too much as of yet because we're waiting to send in our facilitation agency contract. Once we get going, however, I think I'll be talking about it quite a bit more.

Good luck to you in your journey! :)

We are waiting to be assigned a social worker to begin our homestudy. The only thing is we are in the UK - so we will adopt from the foster care system. But if you'd like to see a different way... my blog is

http://nh-gettingthere.blogspot.com/

but just to warn you it isn't all adoption related!

Welcome to the world of adoption! It's really been an amazing experience for our family.

It's a little awkward to point you back to my own blog, but I maintain a big open blogroll of writers involved in domestic adoptions (open and semi-open). In addition to the pre-adoptive parent section, there are a lot of bloggers in the adoptive parent section who adopted recently. You just might find some good connections there.

(ICLW--and thanks for stopping by my blog today!)

Although we're not in the process at this point (short of waiting to find out if one of our daughter's birth relatives might be placed with us), I write quite a bit about our experiences as parents raising children in open adoption if you'd like to swing by and check it out. Wishing you well on this journey.

Here from ICLW, and will be following you!

Congrats on your decision to adopt! Love your blog and more congrats on your recent IF video! We are also in the adoption process. There are so many fantastic adoption bloggers out there to learn from. I've put together a list of links we've found useful, for basic adoption information, financing adoptions, and other websites, at our website. I've also been collecting a nice blogroll of super adoption bloggers. Hope to see you soon and all the best!
